The Healthy Hair Routine, Step by Step
Three steps to start.
Start with three steps: wash, condition, leave-in. Add the rest when you’re ready.
The First Three
- Wash. Shampoo your scalp, not your lengths. A quarter-sized amount or less; short or fine hair needs about a dime. Wash twice, then rinse for two full minutes.
- Condition. From the ears down, never at the roots. Comb it through while it’s in.
- Leave-in. From the ears down, on damp hair. Don’t rinse it out.

When You’re Ready
- Air dry. Squeeze, don’t rub. Then let it be. More in how to air dry.
- Heat. Protectant first, and only iron hair that’s fully dry. More in flat iron heat.
- Oil. Last. Two drops, ears down, on dry ends. More in how to use hair oil.
